Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck Super FabLab (JNWSFL) has partnered with OUI Inc., a pioneering medical startup from Japan, to fabricate and produce the Slit Smart Eye Camera. Developed by OUI Inc., this revolutionary smartphone-attached slit-lamp device allows for the early detection of various eye diseases, eliminating the need for in-person visits to an ophthalmologist. The device is revolutionizing how eye health is monitored and assessed, especially in remote regions.

This collaboration is part of DHI's Innovation Strategy and combines the expertise of professionals from medicine, business, hardware/software engineering, and machine learning. Founded by ophthalmologists from Keio University School of Medicine, OUI Inc. is on a mission to combat global blindness through innovative solutions, and JNWSFL is proud to support this cause through the production of their Slit Smart Eye Camera.

Since last year, JNWSFL has been producing the Slit Smart Eye Camera locally, utilizing advanced machinery and skilled technicians. To date, 75 units have been manufactured, with 25 units purchased by the Ministry of Education for distribution in Bhutan's schools, and 50 units supplied to OUI Inc. for marketing in regions including Vietnam, Mexico, Latin America, Indonesia, and parts of Africa. OUI Inc has expressed their satisfaction with the high-quality fabrication, meeting Japan’s strict manufacturing standards.

This partnership underscores JNWSFL's growing role as an R&D hub and demonstrates Bhutan’s capacity to produce high-tech solutions that meet international standards. It marks a significant achievement for the country and opens the door for future global partnerships in innovative manufacturing and healthcare solutions.
